PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION BREAKING GROUND:PUBLIC CONVENIENCE PROJECT AIM TO ENHANCE SELF HELP DEVELOPMENT

The Department of Public Administration at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, in collaboration with the Lekan Adisa Initiative, recently hosted a significant event with the commissioning of a public convenience facility on Tuesday April 29 2025 at exactly 10:37am.The event marked a crucial step in promoting environmental development within the institution and underscored the department's commitment to fostering a conducive learning environment for students.


The commissioning program commenced with a dignified opening ceremony, featuring the recitation of the national anthem, Oyo State anthem, and The Polytechnic, Ibadan anthem. This patriotic start set the tone for a day filled with meaningful discussions and reflections on leadership, development, and community service. Mr. Olaolu Olakunle, an alumnus of the department and a member of the class of 2002, skillfully anchored the program, ensuring a smooth flow of proceedings.

Dr. O.O. Oyewo, Head of the Department of Public Administration, delivered a warm welcome address, introducing the array of distinguished personalities in attendance. Notably, these included the Rector of the institution, Dr. T.A. Lasisi, the Deputy Rector, Mrs. Olaide Salau, the Registrar, Mr. Ogunjimi, the ASUP Chairman, Dr. K.A. Lawal, and Dr. Kehinde Faniyi, the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Communication Studies,Baale Adisa, among others. In his speech, Dr. Oyewo underscored the pivotal role of leadership and administrators in shaping the environment. He encouraged students to take proactive steps in positively impacting their immediate environment, highlighting it as an historical responsibility for every African.

Dr. Kola Lawal, Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) at The Polytechnic, Ibadan chapter, took the stage to deliver a thought-provoking lecture on self-help in public service. During his address, he delineated different leadership styles and their respective impacts on organizational goals. Dr. Lawal praised the Rector, Dr. T.A. Lasisi, as a transformational leader who not only supports but also encourages innovative ideas from the staffs, provided they contribute positively to the institution. He emphasized the importance of flexibility in leadership, noting that effective leaders must know when to adapt their leadership style according to the situation at hand.


The Rector, Dr. T.A. Lasisi, in his remarks, lauded Dr. O.O. Oyewo for his unwavering commitment to the growth and development of the institution. He highlighted the importance of pragmatic leadership, which involves not just envisioning the future but also taking concrete steps towards achieving set goals. Dr. Lasisi pointed out that building a positive legacy is crucial for leaders, as it determines the story that will be told about them in the future. He expressed his appreciation for Dr. Lekan Adisa's contributions to society, noting that his efforts exemplified the spirit of giving back to the community.

Dr. Lekan Adisa, the founder of the Lekan Adisa Foundation, expressed his profound gratitude to the Department of Public Administration for imparting knowledge and positivity to him during his time at the institution. He stated that the commissioning of the public convenience facility was just the beginning of more projects aimed at improving the institution and the broader community. Dr. Adisa's commitment to giving back was evident in his words and actions, reflecting a deep sense of responsibility towards societal development.

The highlight of the event was the commissioning of the public convenience facility by the Rector, Dr. T.A. Lasisi. The ceremony involved the cutting of a ribbon and a tour of the facility to ensure its readiness for use. Following the commissioning, Comrade Femi Famuroti, the President of the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPADS) in 2002, delivered the closing remarks. He emphasized the significance of students' thoughts and mindset in shaping their future, urging them to cultivate a positive and proactive approach to their studies and personal development. The program concluded with a closing prayer, marking the end of a day filled with inspiration and meaningful interactions.

Dignitaries in Attendance

The event drew a considerable number of dignitaries from within and outside the institution. Notable attendees included Dr. Kehinde Faniyi, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Communication Studies, Dr. A.B. Aremu, Head of the Department of Business Administration, Dr. Yemi Adewoyin, a lecturer at Wits University in South Africa, Hon. Yemi Aramide, and Dr. Morakinyo Oloyede from Lead City University, Ibadan. The presence of these distinguished individuals underscored the importance of the event and the collaborative spirit that defines The Polytechnic, Ibadan's approach to community and societal development projects.

This commissioning event not only highlighted the institution's commitment to providing a conducive learning environment but also showcased the impact of collaboration between academic departments and external partners in driving positive change. As the institution continues to grow and evolve.
