CONCERNS RISE AS NAPADS SUSPENDS SOCIAL DIRECTOR OVER EVENT HANDLING

By: NAPADS Press

A wave of concern has emerged within the Department of Public Administration at National Association of Public Administration Students, The Polytechnic Ibadan, following the suspension of the Social Director over issues linked to the Freshers’ Night event held during the first semester.

In an official memorandum issued by the Student Representatives Council (SRC) dated April 11, 2026, the legislative arm announced that the Social Director,  Olusegun Samuel has been suspended from all responsibilities relating to the planning, coordination, and execution of departmental social activities. The directive, however, clarified that the officer remains in position but is barred from operational duties pending further review.

According to the SRC, the decision followed a formal meeting with the Social Director where concerns were raised regarding the handling of the event’s finances and overall conduct. The Council emphasized its constitutional oversight role, stating that the resolution was reached after careful deliberation.

Corroborating this position, the Executive Council of NAPADS, through a separate notice signed by the President and General Secretary, confirmed that the suspension takes immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice. The statement highlighted serious concerns and findings pointing to a lack of transparency in financial dealings and lapses in due process during the organization of departmental social activities.

Both arms of the association further resolved that all subsequent social events within the department will no longer be handled unilaterally. Instead, they are to be executed strictly through joint committees constituted by the Executive Council and the SRC to ensure accountability, transparency, and proper supervision.

Findings outlined in the legislative memo revealed that the Freshers’ Night event was allegedly conducted without adequate consultation, notification, or involvement of the appropriate committees established by both governing bodies. This procedural violation formed a critical basis for the disciplinary action.

The development has sparked conversations among students, with many calling for increased accountability in student leadership and better management of departmental resources.

Authorities within NAPADS have urged students to channel any inquiries or concerns through the office of the President, assuring that further directives will be communicated as the situation unfolds.
