HOD's Cup: Defending Champion Reclaim Title

In the thrilling Public Administration Department HOD's Cup final that kept fans on the edge of their seats, defending champions, the HND 2, won a nail-biting contest on penalties after coming from behind three times to draw 3-3 in regulation time against the ND 2 students. The match was played at Ilaji Resort Center Stadium on Saturday 17th June, 2023.

The game started with the ND 2 taking the lead early in the game through a well-taken goal by their star striker. The HND 2 fought back and equalized moments later with a stunning long-range effort by their midfielder. However, the ND 2 regained their lead just before halftime with a well-placed shot from team play. Just before the end of the first half, the HND 2 won a penalty, and it was brilliantly converted to make it 2-2. 

The second half started with the ND 2 piling on the pressure, but they couldn't find the back of the net until the 75th minute, when their striker scored a brilliant goal to take the lead again. However, their joy was short-lived as the HND 2 scored yet another goal in the nick of time.

With only a few minutes left on the clock, the HND 2 pushed forward in search of an equalizer, and their efforts were rewarded when they scored a dramatic last-minute goal to make it 3-3. The game went into penalty shootouts, and it was the defending champions who held their nerve to win 5-4 and retain their title.

Speaking after the game, the HND 2 Coach praised his team's resilience, saying: "We never gave up, even when we were behind three times. We kept fighting and were rewarded with a last-minute equalizer. It's a great feeling to win the cup again, and we are proud of the way we played."

One of the players of the ND 2 also praised his team's performance, saying: "We gave it our all, but it wasn't enough on the day. Congratulations to the HND 2 students for their victory."

The Departmental HOD's Cup final which was played at Ilaji Resort Center where they had their excursion after a glamorous FYB week was a fitting end to a thrilling competition that showcased the talent and determination of the students of the department. The defending champions proved that they are a force to be reckoned with throughout the competition, and they will undoubtedly leave a legacy behind.
