NAPADS SRC: Rubber stamp or lacking?

 By: Mr_positivism

Imagine a state without government, there would exist nothing but anarchy, and the people of the state, most especially the lower class will suffer the most. The exigencies of the legislature, executive and judiciary guarantees the right sanity and rights of the people in respect to the effective discharge of duties of these branches of government.

Fortunately for the National Association of Public Administration Students, The Polytechnic, Ibadan chapter, which has an able executive body who carries out varieties of projects and activities in the interest of the students, and of course indefatigable lecturers who oversees the affairs of the association (Staff advisers). Suddenly the Students Representatives Council (SRC); the legislative arm of the association that was inaugurated virtually at the beginning of this administration were no where to be found.

The SRC which was inaugurated on the 30th of December, 2022 with the appointment of Anjorin Oluwafemi as the Speaker has ever since inauguration perpetuated an inarticulate and incapacitated representation.

Meanwhile, they are expected to adequately represent the interest of the students as they are made up of representatives from each levels in the department, serve as a check on the activities of executives, approve budget and projects of the NAPADS executive. Therefore, it is unethical and uncalled for as they are no where to be found.

The NAPADS President, Com. Ude Chinaza Nnena in an underground discussion with the Press complained that the executive is not in anyway responsible for the inactive habit portrayed by the SRC body. "It is beneficial as it made our administration a check free one", she added.

While reaching out to the Speaker himself, Hon. Anjorin Oluwafemi he said the house have not been so active due to his absence in the school. "For the past weeks of resumption, I had to go and attend to some things which warrant me to leave the school all these while", he retorted.

Nevertheless, questions that kept germinating in the heart of the students include; Is it compulsory for the Speaker to be present before the house could hold a congress? Don't he have a deputy? Then why the halt in the activities of the SRC body?

The effect of this act of theirs reduced the chance of the members of the house in practicing legislative procedures, as students of government and administration. Beyond this, they've not been able to checkmate the executive arm of the department thereby not reflecting and assuring students of transparency and good representation in their respective administration.
