In a grand celebration of academic excellence, The Polytechnic, Ibadan, witnessed a defining moment at its 35th, 36th, 37th, and 38th Combined Convocation Ceremony held on Friday December 15th, 2023. Stealing the spotlight was the outstanding Okunlola Adebukola Rofiat, who emerged as the HND Best Graduating Student in the prestigious Public Administration Department for the 2022/2023 academic session.

Okunlola's triumph was not merely a routine victory; it was a testament to her unwavering commitment to academic brilliance. Graduating with Distinction, a distinction that mirrors First Class Honors, she showcased a level of intellectual prowess that set her apart.

This accolade, however, wasn't Okunlola's first brush with academic excellence. In a remarkable display of consistency, she had previously graduated with Distinction during her National Diploma (ND) programme within the same department. Her academic journey at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, has been marked by an unyielding pursuit of knowledge and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

Public Administration Department takes pride in Okunlola Adebukola Rofiat's remarkable accomplishment and acknowledges her as a symbol of academic distinction. Her story will undoubtedly resonate within the institution and beyond, serving as a source of inspiration for those who strive for excellence in the pursuit of knowledge.

In an exclusive interview following her triumph, Okunlola Adebukola Rofiat opened up about the arduous journey that led to her being named the HND Best Graduating Student in Public Administration at The Polytechnic, Ibadan's recent convocation.

Reflecting on her experience, Okunlola acknowledged the challenges she faced in the competitive atmosphere of the "erudite class" within the Public Administration Department. She emphasized the department's rigorous nature, attributing her success to determination and zeal, qualities crucial for navigating the demanding academic terrain.

Recalling moments of doubt and emotional struggles, Okunlola admitted contemplating giving up on herself when faced with the pressure of maintaining her academic strength. Despite graduating with Distinction during her ND days, she questioned her ability to replicate this feat at the HND level. According to her, Adetoro Usman, her sit mate in class was always there to encourage her and so also is her parent who always remind her that she had to be the Best Graduating Student of her set.

Unexpectedly finding herself at The Polytechnic, Ibadan due to circumstances beyond her control, Okunlola initially had reservations about studying in the University. However, her genuine interest in government, nurtured since secondary school, fueled her determination to excel in Public Administration at the Polytechnic setup.

After her National Diploma, she didn't intend to make her way back to the institution for HND programme, but Okunlola's journey took an unexpected turn when the direct entry she applied for didn't materialize. Undeterred, she resolved to return to Public Administration Department, driven by the belief that achieving Distinction in HND was imperative for her future in the labor market.

Her unwavering commitment led her to prioritize academic pursuits over social activities, a sacrifice that paid off when she received a Distinction in her ND results. Despite contemplating not returning to Poly Ibadan, circumstances led her back, and the goal of achieving another Distinction became a driving force.

Sharing her strategy for success, Okunlola highlighted the importance of putting God first, maintaining focus, and reading extensively beyond the assigned class materials. She revealed reading for up to 18 hours nonstop for a single course, emphasizing the significance of going above and beyond what lecturers provided.

In offering advice to fellow students, she emphasized the need to read widely, understand each course lecturer, and not limit oneself to the material given in class. Okunlola encouraged a thorough approach to exam preparation, urging students not to undermine their capabilities. Her final message echoed gratitude to God, affirming that her efforts, extensive reading, and determination did not go in vain, ultimately culminating in her remarkable achievement.
