NAPADS ORIENTATION: FUNMIFREEDOM STOLE THE SHOW

 By: Adeniji Sodiq Ademola

The Public Administration Department welcomed its new students with an Orientation Programme on Friday, January 18, 2023, at Sewage Hall 1, North Campus. The programme, organized by the department's executive arm, aimed to inform the students about the rules and regulations of the institution.

Several guest lecturers, including Dr. Muyiwa Ọjọ (Language Arts Department), Barr. Adebisi Shittu (Criminology and Security Studies Department), Mr. Kehinde Moradeyo (CIDM), Mrs. Fawibe (Security Unit of the Institution), and the Dean of Student Affairs, Mr. Makinde John, delivered insightful lectures on how to make the most of the students' stay in the institution. However, for some students like me, the most memorable part of the programme was the performance of a spoken word artist named Fúnmifreedom.

Fúnmifreedom, whose real name is Ganiyu Oluwafunmilayo Amoke, is an HND 1 student of the Public Administration Department. She mesmerized the audience with her poem titled "Freedom," which expressed the exhilarating sense of liberation that new students feel when they enter campus life. She vividly depicted the initial excitement, the joy of independence, and the eagerness to explore a world free from parental constraints after gaining admission into higher institution.

As the poem progressed, Fúnmifreedom skillfully narrated the transitional journey, capturing the essence of the first moments on campus and the connections formed with fellow students. The performance reached its climax when the poem took a thought-provoking turn, as Veronica, the character in the poem, emphasized the importance of responsible choices and warned against the potential dangers of unbridled freedom on campus.

This poignant twist in the poem added depth to the performance, leaving a lasting impression on the audience. Fúnmifreedom's "Freedom" became the highlight of the programme for some students and audience like me, not only for its artistic excellence but also for its meaningful message about the responsibilities that come with newfound freedom in the academic battlefield of campus life.
