WORKSHOP SEMINAR: HND 2 ADMINISTRATORS SHOWCASE THEIR PUBLIC SPEAKING SKILLS.

The Department of Public Administration of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, held its annual Workshop Seminar in Public Administration on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Sewage Hall 1. The seminar was the practical aspect of the HND 2 course titled "Workshop in Administration", which aimed to expose the students to the real-life challenges and opportunities in the field of public administration.

The seminar was anchored by Mr. Yusuf Wahab, a lecturer of the department, who introduced the guests and dignitaries present. They included lecturers of the department, the internal assessor, Alhaji Azeez Lukman, from the Department of Local Government and Development Studies of the institution, and the external assessor, Dr. Idowu Johnson, from the Department of Political Science, University of Ibadan.

The programme opening procession started with the recitation of the National Anthem and the Oyo State anthem by everybody present. The Head of Department, Dr. O.O. Oyewo, in his opening remarks, stated the importance of having such a seminar at the Higher National Diploma level, and implored all participants to make the best out of it.

After the HOD's address, groups were called out in no particular order to present their papers for discourse. The session had a total of 21 groups, each consisting of nine to twelve students, who had prepared their papers on various topics related to Public Administration, such as budgeting, policy analysis, corruption and governance, e-voting process, and so on.

Each presentation was followed by questions and comments from the assessors and the Lecturers present, who evaluated the students' knowledge, creativity, and communication skills. The students also received feedback and suggestions on how to improve their work and performance.

After the presentation by the 21 groups, results were announced to all participants. The best two groups scored 42 and 38 respectively, while two groups tied at 37 as the third best scoring group.

The seminar had in attendance Dr. O.O. Oyewo, Dr. R.A. Akinseye, Dr. A.B. Akinola, Barr. O.J. Diekola, Mr. Ganiyu Akeem, Mrs. O.S. Olaniru, Mrs. Olayinka Òkè, ND 1, ND 2 and HND 1 students of the department, as well as representatives of NAPADS Press, who covered the event.


The seminar was a successful and memorable event that showcased the talents and potentials of the public administration students and enhanced their learning and career prospects.
