PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION WINS IN THRILLING SEMI-FINAL, REACHES FIRST FINAL IN MANY YEARS

In a dramatic semi-final clash of the ongoing FBCS Dean's Cup, the Department of Public Administration emerged victorious against the Department of Procurement and Supply Chain Management, winning 5-3 in a tense penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in full time. The match, held on Friday, June 7th, 2024 at the Main Pitch, North Campus of the institution, showcased the resilience and determination of both teams, with Public Administration ultimately securing their place in the final.

The first half saw Public Administration take the lead through Ejeme Isaac, who capitalized on a rebound from a free kick following an error by the opposing goalkeeper. Isaac made no mistake in slotting the ball into the net, giving his team a 1-0 advantage. Despite maintaining a solid defense, Public Administration conceded an equalizer in the second half when a player from Procurement and Supply Chain Management fired in a goal to level the score at 1-1.

The remainder of the match was a fierce battle for supremacy, with Procurement and Supply Chain Management creating several scoring opportunities. However, Public Administration's defense held firm, forcing the game into a penalty shootout. In the decisive moment, a player from Procurement and Supply Chain Management missed a crucial penalty, allowing Public Administration to clinch the shootout 5-3.

This hard-fought victory earned Public Administration a spot in the final, where they will face the Marketing Department, who also advanced via a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw with the Mass Communication Department.


Following the match, an emotional Com. Makinde Victor Elijah, Sport Director of Public Administration, shared his thoughts on the victory. "The game was amazing. Seeing us achieve a hard-won victory fills my heart, the technical crew, and players with immense pride," he said. "The pressure to perform was overwhelming, and the win brought a sense of relief and joy. We all invested our hearts and souls into the game, making this victory deeply personal and emotional."

Com. Makinde Victor Elijah highlighted the significance of reaching the final after many years. "Reaching the finals after so many years is a testament to the department's hard work, dedication, and perseverance. It's a remarkable achievement, and we are honored to be a part of this team. This journey has taught us valuable lessons, and we've become a more resilient and cohesive team."

Looking ahead to the final, he further expressed confidence in his team's ability to win the trophy. "We have all it takes to emerge victorious. Our preparation has been rigorous, and we've fine-tuned our strategies and tactics. Most importantly, we have a deep desire to win and a strong belief in ourselves. We'll leave everything on the field and make our department proud."

Team captain Ajadi Sherif Adewale echoed this sentiment, expressing excitement over their achievement. "We feel excited because we are able to make the impossible possible," he said. Addressing the fans' expectations for the final, Adewale added, "I appreciate all our fans for their massive turnout today. The support was incredible and massive. I can confidently assure you that we are lifting the trophy, and I pray may God help us. Sherif said a big shout out to all NAPADS."

Coach Tajudeen Taofeek, popularly known as Hayjay also provided insight into the team's performance. When asked about the secret to their strong defense, he explained, "It’s all about coordination and passion towards our goals. I trained those players to practice their moving and shifting together as a unit to cover different offensive movements. Effective communication is key."

Regarding the final, Coach Tajudeen Taofeek urged fans to show up in full support. "We are the ones expecting lots from them. We want them to come to the field to motivate us and have the same trust in us because our plan is to take the cup unbeaten. We are still on that one lap to go, but as a coach, we would break the department curse, na we go later carry the cup laslas," he retorted. 

Public Administration now eagerly awaits the final showdown against the Marketing Department scheduled for Monday, June 10th, 2024, with the team and fans hopeful for a triumphant conclusion to their remarkable journey in the FBCS Dean's Cup. However, according to the organizers, the said date of the final match is subjected to change.
